Trevians,

Hello, my name is Fred Miller and I am the Head Coach for the JPW Trevians.  For those who don't know, I played 13 years in the NFL and my last 5 years were spent with the Bears.  I am very excited about our season this year.  We started practice the first week of August and the players are looking good.  Our attendance is very low but we understand camps and vacations take priority in August.  Our coaching staff is eager to get our hands on your boys and turn them into a great football.  We are setting our goals high and never settling on mediocrity.  Two things need to happen in order for us to attain our goals:  1) players must attend as many practices possible.  2) we need full support from the parents.  These two things don't guarantee success but it will definitely put the odds in our favor.

Football is a sport unlike others.  One great athlete can't control the game without his teammates playing well.  Great quarterbacks and running backs will not have success if the offensive line isn't blocking.   A great offense can't win games if the defense can't stop the opposition from scoring.  We need everyone playing well the entire game.  This brings me to practice attendance.  We need everyone at practice at all times.  I know things come up, but try for the team.  The coaches will strongly promote team unity.  They will do everything as a unit.  Win, lose and punishments as a unity.  When the season starts we will be two weeks behind opponent organizations.  All other organizations began football practice the first week of August.  I'm expecting most of our players to return Aug 17th.  That gives us a week to install plays, condition and develop continuity for the team.  I don't believe this is enough time to prepare us for our first game.  I would like to practice twice a day starting Aug 17th.  The first practice would be a more mental than physical.  No contact just mental reps and learning plays.  The second practice would be our normal practice.  I know this is asking a lot but it will pay off in the end.

Parent support is the most important intangible element for a successful season.  There will be ups and downs during our season and it is very important to stay positive.  A positive attitude is 60% of winning.  If a player feels defeated he will surely lose.  I know from personal experience.  At some point every player will feel defeated, but we as parents and coaches must teach the players to push through tough times.  Also, we want the kids to learn to both help and rely on their teammates.  Neither coaches nor parents can be on the field, so they must learn to help each other.  Parents have one role after the game begins...CHEERING VERY LOUD FOR OUR TEAM!  People underestimate the role fans play in a football game.  Fans can easily influence football games.  Mark Rice purchased 70 cow bells so we can make noise and start a Glencoe tradition...beans or pennies in a milk jug also makes a great rattler.

I've played football for 26 years and learned many things on the way.  Believe it or not, football is much the same in youth leagues as it is in the professional arena.  I felt just as good winning my youth championship as I did the Super Bowl.  When you win the ultimate prize and achieve your goals there isn't a better feeling.  We will play to win the championship.  We will play to create some ever lasting memories.  We will play to build character.  I can't guarantee your son will play a certain position or we will win the championship.  I can guarantee everyone will be treated the same and we will play hard.  Thanks in advance for your support and the hard work we will all put in this year. - Fred Miller

Trevians,

I'm still thinking, "what went wrong" and "what should I have done differently."  Its very hard making it to the championship game and coming up short.  It's more difficult making it to the championship game and not playing or coaching our best.  We can blame officiating but coaching and player performance wasn't good enough either.  We will definitely rebound for next season and make another run.  Now that our season has come to an end we need to have our end-of-the-year party.  A date will be set once the wild card spot for Florida is determined.  Hopefully we should know something about the wildcard by this coming Tuesday.  If we get the wildcard bid, lets redeem ourselves and win a National Championship.  Again, thanks for all the hard work this season.  Our players grew a lot as players and young men.  I'm very proud to be associated with JPW Trevians.    Fred

Trevians,

Tough loss!  We played well but they played better.  Wildwood was the
first team we played with a winning record.  Our team definitely
learned a lot and will be better for playoffs.  Practice schedule is
listed below.  We need everyone to make as many practices
possible...we need to install plays for Playoffs. - Fred
Trevians,

Good scrimmage last night.  We played a very good team and played
great in quarters 1 and 2.  Park Ridge is a Division I team and hand
pick each player.  All of their players have at least two years of
experience and it showed.  Our team is playing really well given we
have many kids without one year of football experience.  Also, we are
collectively younger than most teams we play.  Experience and age are
the key elements for good football players.  Most teams have at least
8-10 older/lighter players.  We have 4.  Wildwood's head coach was
amazed of our success given our team had few older/lighter players.
Now its time to overcome our disadvantages and win the Mid-American
Region AYF Championship.  Many questioned if we could win against
better teams and have success in the playoffs.  I'm writing to tell
you,"it is realistic for our team to have success in the playoffs."
Is it realistic to beat a Division I team like Park Ridge...NO.  But,
we can play a good game and keep the score close.  Is it realistic to
beat a quality team like Wildwood...Absolutely Yes.  I believe
Wildwood is the team to beat in Division II.  We were in a position to
tie the game against Wildwood but I inadvertently sent to many players
on the field.  That penalty kept us from winning.  Playing Wildwood
and Park Ridge allowed the coaches to asses the team and make
necessary changes for the playoffs.  We will be ready.  Not only will
we work hard on the field but we will play hard off the field.  I
would like to take the team to the ESPN Zone next Saturday...not this
coming Saturday.  Small reward for a job well done.  The team is
working hard and it is paying off.  Their hard work has put them in
the position to win the regional championship.  The odds are still
against us but we have a legitimate chance.  If we play an entire game
like quarters 1 and 2 in Park Ridge scrimmage, we will be champs.

Now that I have everyone pumped-up.  Who's coming to Vegas?  We need
to get a final number so we can make arrangements.  No need to confirm
if you answered already.  I'm looking for several more players to join
us.  Remember you need not be present for your player to go.  Plenty
of families are more than willing to take an extra player to Vegas.
On a different note, we will cancel Vegas trip if we win Mid-American
Region AYF Championship.  We will cancel because Florida tournament is
more important.  AYF plays the National Championship game in Florida
the week following Thanksgiving.  I rather be well rested, make one
trip and give the National Championship our full attention.  I will
still goto Vegas if majority wants both trips.  Email me or call if
you want in on Vegas.

This Saturday we make the long journey to South City.   South City is
45 miles from Glencoe.  We will caravan for those that need a ride.
The caravan will leave Glencoe's Community Center at 10:30 am.  Warm-
ups will start at 12:00 pm.  Please email me if you need a ride.

Todays practice: 5:00-6:30 Pants/Jersey/Helmets   NO PADS
Thanks
