North Shore Cheer Athletics offers a
variety of cheer & dance experiences to girls ages 6 – 18. We now provide the opportunity for
girls to decide whether or not they would like to participate in competitions.
Cheerleading is a rapidly evolving sport,
which is becoming increasingly competitive. Although recreational and all star cheerleading used to be
completely separate entities of cheerleading, the lines differentiating the two
are becoming blurred. Often, the
option to do purely recreational cheerleading (without being forced to do
highly competitive competitions) is no longer available.
It is both the policy and beliefs of the
NSCA that cheerleading (like most other sports and often even more important
than in other sports) is to be taught in a series of progressions with our
primary focus remaining on safety and the overall well-being of our
athletes. That is our first and
foremost priority when dealing with all of your daughters. We will never ask a girl to attempt any
skill that they are not completely ready to execute. NSCA has ensured through various certifications, training,
and seminars that all of our coaches are equipped to make such decisions and
are all well versed on positive coaching methods.
With that being said, the girls have the
choice of doing only recreational cheer and/or dance, only all-star, or
both. This allows families to
tailor their NSCA experience to what will best “safely” cater to their child’s
needs & desires. Basically,
you will be able to get what you want out of our program. In determining what type of program
structure we would have this season, we took into consideration various things,
with the main goal being to offer options best suited for your child. Some girls may not be ready to compete
or just want to cheer & not compete at all, regardless of their age. While you may have other girls that
are, indeed, ready to compete at much higher levels with girls well above their
age. So, we are giving you all of
these options upfront so you and your girls can make the best decision for you
and them. We at NSCA believe that
girls and their families should have the ability to choose what type of program
is best suited for their needs. To see all of the different options see the
2010 – 2011 NSCA Registration Fees & Policies page at the end of this
packet.
Keep in mind that whether competing at
the recreational level or the all star level, competitions require many hours
of practices and dedication. Give
this necessity; girls who wish to compete must attend the majority of practices
(rules regarding attendance will be addressed in the parent/cheerleader
handbook).
Preseason practices for all teams begin
on July 26th until school commences. They will be Monday – Friday from approximately 6 -8 pm
(individual coaches may adjust) at Central School in Glencoe. All preseason practices are
completely optional for all participants.
Once school starts, everyone will go to their normally assigned practice
schedule (see individual teams for days/times).
